Third Caliph of Islam Hazrat Usman Ghani RA


Hazrat Usman Ghani (R.A) was the third Caliph Of Islam. He was born in the Umayyad Family of the Quraysh tribe in Macca. This Family was known as powerful and prosperous at that time in Macca. Hazrat Usman’s father was Affan ibn Abi-al-as and his mother was Arwa bint Kurayz.

Hazrat Usman was the 4th person who embraced Islam. He was married to the third daughter of the holy prophet (Peace be upon him) named Ruqayya. At that time due to the tortuousness of Quraysh, he migrated with his wife in emigrants to Abyssinia. There he quickly established his trade. He was a well-knower of trade and a good merchant. He earned a huge amount of benefit on his trade.

After a while, he migrated to Medina and he brought massive wealth to Medina. At the time of the Badar war, his wife Ruqayya became ill and he didn’t participate in the war due to the request of the Holy Prophet to serve his wife. When Hazrat Ruqayya died, some period after; Holy Prophet (S.A.W) married his daughter Umm Kalsoom with Hazrat Usman (R.A). Therefore he is also known as “Zunnurain” (which means having two Noors/daughters of the Holy Prophet).

After embracing Islam he spent his money abundantly on Islam. Hazrat Usman was a generous person of Islam. He sacrificed many things in the way of Allah.

He gave a hundred camels in Allah’s way that were loaded with wheat in a period of Kahat. He also purchased a well of sweet water for Muslims. The great task of Hazrat Usman was to accumulate the verses of the Holy book in the shape of today’s Holy Qur'an. He sent its copies to other Muslim regions.

He made Caliph after the death of Hazrat Umar (R.A). The duration of his Khilaafat was 12 years from 644-656 CE. He conquered many countries. Especially in his period of Khilaafat, the first time Ocean areas had also been conquered and Islam reached there. The Khilaafat period of Hazrat Usman was so prosperous. Everyone has a lot of wealth and no one was eligible to take Zakat.

Hazrat Usman got Martyrdom in his own home. He is buried at the Al-Baqi graveyard, Medina.
